I officially announce my love for The Martian! Yes thats what this blog post's about!
Thought I'd upload some of my recent drawings, and they just so happens to be crazy versions of me
being physicked about Mark Watney growing potatos on Mars. So there you go!
This one's actually the second.. no the fourth version (the first 3 ones being copies of the same motive). This one is specifically (as mentioned) going crazy about The Martian - this is me watching
the movie, though I did read it first. If you haven't heard about the story, then its about this astronaut that is stranded on Mars, as his crew left him behind because they thought he was dead (a kind of spike went through his chest). And so this lonely astronaut has to make do without his crew, or the help from NASA (to begin with) - basically he's the only man on Mars, which makes him sorta doomed (to begin with). Then all sorts of events unfold and the story gets real exciting!
The best part about this story is Watney's personality! He's so brilliantly witty and basically finishes every conversation he eventually has with NASA with little jokes. Which makes it sound unrealistic as he's a lone man on a whole planet! But he also is a brilliant problem-solver and he's the best botanist/ mechanical engineer on Earth (also on Mars, but thats not as significant). He's very professional as he should be as an astronaut, and as Andy Weir states himself (the author of the book) - he has these personality traits that are valuable in connecting a group of professionals on a horribly
dangerous task. That is partly why he is picked to go on that ARES mission.
The other reason why this movie/film seems unrealistic is that.. well they're on Mars.
We've only just about found liquid water on Mars in real life - but what Andy Weir wants with this story is to demonstrate how 'we' technically could make a manned mission to Mars with the technology/ knowledge that 'we' have today. Weir has this huge passion for space, and missions into space and space organisations and astronauts and just everything that includes space! Also obviously science!
He himself did all the research for his book, and the majority of the science thats involved is accurate calculations and measurements - which is wildly impressive in my opinion.
He did get a couple of corrections from the little audience he had online, as he published the book
online before it was turned into an e-book aswell as an actual printed version.
In other words go and experience this story! Besides Watney there're tons of great characters!

This is the first one I did! Its the same movie I was watching here - but this drawing's more about
the experience of watching something great and be able to geek out about it on your lonesome.
I do that quite often - maybe not at this level, but quitely enjoying a film on your own is something
I really enjoy. The little smiling and giggling, and the feeling of being swallowed into another world is absolutely wonderful! Same goes for reading a great book. Watching a play or going to a concert can also lead to amazing experiences - but the being on your own does something significant to me. Thats a personal matter obviously!
