The pressure is huge because they're big boots to fill. And for me there's been 12 pairs of boots. That's a lot of boots!

 Nobody ever encouraged me in this business. I encouraged myself. 

I was a very dull and shy child.
I was the last person you would expect to be a success in this business. 

But I always felt if I kept going something would happen.

But I even surprised myself at times. 

When I was doing ensemble theater and comedy work, I felt I had some talents. 

But when I started doing my shows in Berkeley

 and found that I could be funny on my own, 

I was shocked.

 You put someone talking in front of me, and I cannot engage with that. 

I think that's why I'm an actor; if I can physically be in it, I get it.

I loved that she had every emotion under the sun every five minutes. 

That's an actor's dream.
She's spoiled, grieving, sensitive and cruel.

 

They'll let me play a gray-bearded wizard, 

but they still wouldn't cast a young gay actor
- who was out - in a straight romantic lead.
